Stéphanie Machabée, who participated in the UCSIA Summer School programme in 2019 and returned for the UCSIA alumni workshop in 2023, has recently started a new role as International Engagement Manager at the British Library in London.

In this position, Stéphanie will contribute to strengthening the institution’s international partnerships and collaborations. The British Library is one of the world’s leading research libraries, renowned for its extensive collections and its role in supporting scholarship, cultural exchange, and global access to knowledge.

Stéphanie holds a PhD from Yale University, where her research explored the intersections of cultural heritage, religion, identity, and public policy. Throughout her career she has worked in archaeological, educational, and museum contexts, both nationally and internationally. Her experience includes teaching, mentoring, curating, archiving, and project management.

As a historian of religion, Stéphanie seeks to foster a deeper understanding of how the past helps illuminate contemporary societies. In her work as a museum and heritage professional, she is particularly committed to expanding the role of cultural institutions by promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and contemporary relevance.

The UCSIA Summer School warmly congratulates Stéphanie Machabée on this new step in her professional career and wishes her every success in this exciting role.
